July's RTT – Warhammer 40K at Swords and Spoons

🎖️ My First Solo RTT – Warhammer 40K at Swords and Spoons

This past weekend, I had the honor (and challenge!) of running my first solo Warhammer 40,000 RTT at Swords and Spoons—and I’m proud to say it was a huge success!

We hosted 3 full rounds of 2,000-point matched play, and the tables were packed with beautifully painted armies, tactical maneuvering, and plenty of laughs. From brutal charges to clutch objective grabs, the action never let up.

🛠️ Running the Show

Stepping into the TO (Tournament Organizer) role solo for the first time was no small feat—but thanks to an amazing group of players, a well-prepped space, and lots of caffeine, it all came together.

  • Pairings were smooth

  • Rules questions were respectful

  • Sportsmanship was top-tier

Seriously—this community made it easy.

🎯 Highlights:

  • Intense games and strong army variety

  • Painted armies that absolutely slayed (on the table and in the hobby sense)

  • Prizes for Top 3 and Best Painted

  • Good vibes from start to finish

🧠 Lessons Learned

I came out of this RTT with a few TO tips, a deeper respect for all the work behind the scenes, and a ton of excitement for future events. Running events solo is a lot—but with the right prep and the right people, it’s incredibly rewarding.

🏆 Results:

  • 🥇 1st Place:

    Matthew Taggert

  • 🥈 2nd Place:

    Darius Butler

  • 🥉 3rd Place:

    John Kitzmiller

  • 🎨 Best Painted:

    Darius Butler

🔜 What's Next?

More 40K, of course! We're looking to schedule another RTT soon, plus hobby hangouts, beginner events, and narrative play days. Keep an eye on swordsandspoons.com for all the updates.

Thanks to everyone who came out and made this first solo run such a blast. I’m already planning the next one—and I hope to see you there.

For the Emperor (or maybe the Hive Mind)!
